In Japan there are two main categories of hotels: those that aspire to attract foreign visitors and those that don't.
The latter are much cheaper, but it is not advised to stay in those unless you feel comfortable with the Japanese language and customs (such as a Japanese breakfast).
If you are the adventurous type and you want to extent you stay for sightseeing purposes, you could give them a try. 		Je kan in Japan twee klassen hotels onderscheiden: deze die zich (ook) richten op buitenlanders en deze die dat niet doen.
De hotels in de laatste categorie zijn beduidend goedkoper, maar het is niet aangeraden er gebruik van te maken tenzij je geen problemen hebt om in het Japans te communiceren en je bereid bent de Japanse smaak en gewoontes te volgen (zoals een Japans ontbijt).
Als je wat avontuurlijk aangelegd bent en als je je bezoek wilt verlengen om wat sightseeing te doen, zou je kunnen overwegen om deze hotels te proberen.
Hotels in Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Kyoto
Tokyo Tokio
Because the recent increase in Asian tourists in Tokyo, it lately has become difficult to find affordable, comfortable rooms near to key (metro) stations.
As cancellations are allowed in Japan, it is best to reserve early. 		Gezien de recente stijging van het aantal Aziatische toeristen in Tokio, is het tegenwoordig niet gemakkelijk om betaalbare, confortabele hotelkamers te vinden in de nabijheid van de belangrijke (metro)stations.
Gezien afzeggingen toegelaten zijn in Japan, is het best om zo vroeg mogelijk te reserveren.

Many of these hotels can be reached directly by Limousine Bus from Narita airport or Haneda airport (not all services operate at all times of the day).
An alternative is to use the Limousine Bus till Tokyo City Air Terminal (TCAT) or the JR Narita Express (NEX) from Narita airport to Tokyo, Shinagawa or Shinjuku.
From there on, you can walk or use a taxi. 		Vele van deze hotels zijn bereikbaar met de Limousine Bus vanuit de luchthaven van Narita of Haneda (niet alle bestemmingen worden tijdens de ganse dag aangeboden).
Als aternatief kan je de Limousine Bus nemen tot Tokyo City Air Terminal (TCAT) of de JR Narita Express (NEX) de luchthaven van Narita naar Tokio, Shinagawa of Shinjuku.
Vanaf daar wandel je of neem je een taxi naar je hotel.
Yokohama Yokohama

    This hotel is located in the same complex as the Yokohama Pacifico show area and its conference rooms are often used in combination with large events.
    The closest metro station is "Minatomirai" on the Toyoko/Minatomirai-line that runs from Yokohama Chinatown to Shibuya in Tokyo.
  • The Yokohama Bay Hotel Tokyu
    This hotel is located very close to the Yokohama Pacifico show area.
    The closest metro station is "Minatomirai" on the Toyoko/Minatomirai-line that runs from Yokohama Chinatown to Shibuya in Tokyo.

    This hotel is located in Yokohama China Town. The Yokohama Pacifico tradeshow area can be reached in minutes by metro.
    The closest metro station is "Motomachi Chinatown Station" on the Toyoko/Minatomirai-line that runs from Yokohama Chinatown via Minatomirai (Yokohama Pacifico trade show area) to Shibuya in Tokyo.
  • ShinYokohama Prince Hotel
    This hotel is located close to ShinYokohama station (shinkansen station of Yokohama.) The only interesting aspect of this location is the presence of some hight tech companies and the fact that it is in walking distance of the Yokohama Arena and the Nissan Stadium.

    Dit hotel is dicht bij ShinYokohama station (het shinkansen station van Yokohama.) Het enige interessante aan deze lokatie is de nabijheid van enkele high tech bedrijven en het feit dat het op wandelafstand ligt van de Yokohama Arena en het Nissan Stadium.
Osaka Osaka
Appropriate Middle Class hotels in Osaka are
  • Courtyard Shin-Osaka by Mariott
    = D-VECS' first choice for Osaka if besides cost, comfort is also important
    This hotel is located very conveniently at 1 min walk from Shinosaka station (3rd floor West exit). This is the station where all the shinkansen (connections to Tokyo, Nagoya, Kobe, Hiroshima) stop, where the JR Limited Express train "Haruka" from/to Kansai International Airport stops, where the Midosuji-line (one of the main metro lines in Osaka) stops.
    Please be careful if you take the Haruka from the airport. There are 2 railway stations. You need the JR station.
  • Hotel Granvia Osaka - Osaka Umeda
    Note that Osaka station is NOT the station where the shinkansen stops.
    This hotel started feeling a little bit shabby.
    The easiest connection from the airports of Itami and Kansai International ("Kankuu", KIX) is by Limousine Bus.
    The ride from Kankuu takes about 1 hour.
  • Ramada Osaka - Nakatsu
    This hotel is located on top of the Nakatsu station of the Midosuji-metroline.
  • Hyatt Regency Osaka (Nakafuto station)
    Nakafuto station is close to the Intex tradeshow area.
    The location of this hotel is useful if access to Intex is relevant. The location is not good if access to downtown is the most relevant.

    = D-VECS' eerste keuze voor Osaka indien benevens prijs comfort ook belangrijk is
    Dit hotel is heel handig gelegen, op 1 min wandelen van het station Shinosaka (3de verdieping West uitgang). Dit is het station waar al de shinkansen (verbindingen naar Tokio, Nagoya, Kobe, Hiroshima) stoppen, waar de JR Limited Express trein "Haruka" van/naar Kansai International Airport stopt, waar de Midosuji-line (een van de belangrijke metrolijnen van Osaka) stopt.
    Pas wel op als je de Haruka neemt vanuit de luchthaven. Er zijn 2 treinstations. Je moet het JR-station hebben.
  • Hotel Granvia Osaka - Osaka Station (Umeda)
    Noteer dat Osaka station NIET het station is waar de shinkansen stopt.
    Het hotel doet een beetje verouderd aan.
    De gemakkelijkste verbinding vanuit de luchthaven van Itami of vanuit Kansai International ("Kankuu", KIX) is met de Limousine Bus.
    De rit van Kankuu duurt ongeveer 1 uur.
  • Ramada Osaka - Nakatsu
    Dit hotel staat pal op het Nakatsu metro station van de Midosuji-lijn.
  • Hyatt Regency Osaka (Nakafuto station)
    Nakafuto station is dichtbij Intex.
    Indien toegang tot de handlesbeurszone Intex belangrijk is, is dit hotel goed gelegen, in het andere geval is dit hotel niet ideaal.
    Gelieve de hotel website te raadplegen voor toegang vanaf de luchthaven.
Appropriate Lower Class hotels in Osaka are
  • 2nd Inn Umeda
    = D-VECS' first choice for Osaka if cost is the most important criterium
    This is a very cheap hotel, with tiny rooms, but it is modern, very clean and the staff is friendly although their knowledge of English is rather limited.
    It might be a good idea to book a twin room, even if you are alone.
    Basically you need to pay every day and you are not allowed in the room from 10am till 4pm. Of course you are allowed to leave your luggage in the room.
    The hotel is located just besides the Ritz-Carlton in Umeda, where also JR Osaka Station is located. It requires a 10 min walk from metro station Umeda (Midosuji line), a 7 min walk from JR Osaka and a 5 min walk from metro station Nishi Umeda (Yotsubashi line). (From Umeda and Osaka-stations it can also be accessed underground, but indications are completely lacking.)
    Access from the airport is via JR Osaka station and thus the "Haruka" is advised with transfer at Tennoji or Nishikujo. The JR Kanku Rapid is slower, but requires no transfers.

    = D-VECS' eerste keuze voor Osaka indien prijs het belangrijkste criterium is
    Dit is een zeer goedkoop hotel met erg kleine kamers, maar het is modern en proper. Het personeel is erg vriendelijk, maar hun kennis van het Engels is beperkt.
    Het is misschien wel een goed idee om een twin room te boeken, zelfs als je alleen bent.
    In princiepe betaal je elke dag en mag je tussen 10:00 en 16:00 niet op de kamer. Je mag natuurlijk wel je bagage in de kamer laten.
    Het hotel is gelegen juist naast de Ritz-Carlton in Umeda, waar ook JR Osaka Station is. Het ligt op 10 min wandelen van metro station Umeda (Midosuji line), 7 min wandelen van JR Osaka en 5 min wandelen van metro station Nishi Umeda (Yotsubashi line). (Vanuit de stations Umeda en Osaka kan het ook ondergronds bereikt worden, maar er zijn totaal geen wegaanduidingen.)
    Toegang van de luchthaven is via JR Osaka station en dus is de "Haruka" met overstap in Tennoji of Nishikujo aan te raden. Trager, maar zonder overstappen is de JR Kanku Rapid.
Kyoto Kyoto
